I’m still not clear on the difference between a first down, hail mary, or a blitz, but on Sunday, I’ll be seated next to the photo guy, at the alter of the most gigantic television he could drag though the door. Watching the game? No, no, no-not the game-the commercials. This morning, the local news reminded me of the five best, Superbowl commercials, ever. My favorite by far, is from monster.com, which chronicles the less than lofty employment ambitions, of young underachievers. The first interviewee declares: “when I grow up, I want to be a yes man”, followed by, “I want to file..all day”.
The commercial got me to thinking about some of the dilemmas I’m working on here at the river house, and the myriad of dilemmas my friends, followers and clients ask me to help them solve. I’m running it around in my head now…”When I buy a house, I want it to be really dark” , “ I want a house with a really crappy floor plan”. It’s a fun reality check isn’t it? How about: I want a house with no closets, dirty rugs, the washer and dryer in a dark damp basement. Before you get carried away, and start feeling sorry for yourself, let’s try it the other way around.
My house has the most amazing view. That’s good. How about…my house is spacious. Ok-that’s not bad. Lots of closets? A fireplace?
I guess what the commercial got to me thinking about, is that something great, inspired us to live where we live. Were this not true, we’d need to emulate the commercial like this: I want to grow old in a 200 square foot apartment. Or maybe:
When I buy a house I want to hear the hum of the highway all day long. How about this: When I buy a house, I’d like it to be directly in the flight path of runway 22 at LaGuardia Airport.
Now that I have piqued your interest in the Packers, and made you feel better about wherever it is you love living, here’s some more fun you can have, thanks to monster.com, and the snow Gods.
When I buy a house, I want to be able to ice skate, right out in my driveway, and gather my mail, from my flexible flyer.
So there you have it-a SuperBowl winter pep talk ,for the Northeastern house lover in all of us. Let’s all pass around some good snow news? Maybe it would be nice to have a little sunshine blowing up our dress. 😉
